Sunwatcher Privacy Policy
In short: Sunwatcher works on your device. It uses your location to work out the times of the sun and of the events you set alarms for, and keeps that location, your alarms and your settings on your phone and watch. We run no servers, and Sunwatcher sends us none of your data. It has no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
What Sunwatcher uses, and why
| Data | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Your location (precise or approximate, as you allow) | Sunrise, sunset, twilights, prayer and other event times depend on where you are. Sunwatcher only needs to know roughly where you are. It doesn't ask for background location access, so it learns where you are only while you use it. | Kept on your device: the last place found and the time zone it was found in. Never sent to us or anyone else by Sunwatcher. Location is obtained through Google Play services (see below). |
| Your alarms, notifications and settings | To ring your alarms at the right time and show the dial as you like it. | Kept on your device (and your watch, for the watch app's own alarms). |
| Your subscription status | To unlock the app while you're subscribed, including offline for a while. | The result of Google Play's check is cached on your device. Payments are handled entirely by Google Play; we never see your payment details. |
| Your watch's unlock status | So a subscription on your phone can unlock Sunwatcher on your paired watch. | Sent between your own phone and watch through Google's Wear OS Data Layer: only whether the watch is unlocked and until when. No location or alarms are sent this way. |
Permissions
- Location: to compute the times of the sun and of events where you are.
- Notifications, alarms and reminders (exact alarms), full-screen notifications, vibration and running at start-up: to ring your alarms and event notifications on time, including after the device restarts, and to show the alarm screen.
- Internet and network state: requested by Google Play's billing and Google Play services libraries, to check your subscription. Sunwatcher itself doesn't contact any server.
You can withdraw any permission in your device's settings. Without a location, Sunwatcher can't compute event times and won't set alarms until it knows where you are.
Google services
Sunwatcher uses these Google services, which process data under Google's Privacy Policy:
- Google Play services location (the fused location provider), which may use GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks to find where your device is.
- Google Play Billing, for the subscription and its free trial.
- Wear OS Data Layer and remote interactions, to connect the phone and watch apps and to open Sunwatcher's Play listing on your phone from the watch.
Google Play may give us aggregated, anonymous statistics about the app, such as installs and crashes, through the Google Play Console. They don't identify you.
Backups
If you've turned on Android's backup, your device may include Sunwatcher's alarms, settings and last known place in the backup it stores in your Google account, and restore them on a new device. That backup is under your control in your device's settings. Sunwatcher's subscription and license data is left out of it.
Keeping and deleting your data
Sunwatcher's data stays on your devices until you delete it. Uninstalling Sunwatcher, or clearing its storage in your device's settings, deletes it from that device. Delete a backup in your Google account's backup settings. To cancel your subscription, use "Manage subscription" in Sunwatcher's settings or Google Play's Subscriptions page.
Sharing and selling
We don't collect your personal data, so we don't sell or share it. Sunwatcher contains no advertising, analytics or tracking code.
Children
Sunwatcher isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it on this page and change its effective date above.
